Is there any genre more British than Doom? I had high hopes for this band, coming so obviously from the tradition of bands like Solstice or Witchfinder General. That said, while this is okay, it's not going to really excite you either. Desolate Pathway have some decent riffs and melodies, but the whole thing is recorded so weakly, with such restraint and fussy politeness, that it's impossible for it to catch fire. The songs are decent, but the performances are bland and the vocals lack range or dynamic. Doom needs heaviness, riffs and atmosphere, and this band does not really manage to so any of those things. This is not offensively bad, it's just blah. |
