Here we have the debut offering from Germany's Nocturnal Escape, and one that is unfortunately hamstrung thanks to what I'm calling the unfortunate trinity; poor recording, shaky vocals, and amateur drum programming. There is potential in Nocturnal Escape, particularly in the guitar department where riffs, clean patterns, and solos are all unleashed in strong fashion; sadly, a thin guitar tune neuters the aforementioned. I found the songwriting somewhat fruitless, with a lot of the songs meandering without any real sense of direction. The vocals switch between a few styles, from whispered growls, some actual whispers, some hoarse growls, and clean vocals which are solid, if out of tune and under-produced. On the whole I don't feel there's whole load to write home about. The potential is there, but it's far from realized at this moment in time. |
