One-man band Hoth made their debut waaaaay back in 2001 with the seminal Rites of the Black Goddess, and it is good to see that after fourteen years and long absences, they still cleave to their classic riff-oriented Black Metal. Much more akin to classic Hellhammer than anything modern, Hoth chug and crunch away with hooky riffs and gargling vocals. This is essentially a side project of guitarist/vocalist J.A. of Portugal's venerable Black Metal warriors Decayed, though this is far more stripped-down and DIY than Decayed have been for a long time. Essentially, if you like classic Bathory and Hellhammer, then this is a fun disc. It's not mandatory, but it will entertain you. |
