Nar Mattaru (who undoubtedly got the idea for their name from the Morbid Angel song) are a Chilean band who play heavy, evil South American Death Metal. This isn't fast, it isn't technical, it is a pile of long songs with a definite influence from bands like Dismember or Carnage. The guitar sound is good, the vocals are a deep-throated gargle, and the riffs are class. This has a more melodic edge than you might expect, but the riffs are atonal and menacing, making for an enjoyable disc of inimical, evil Death Metal crunch. These guys are not going to knock you out with originality, but they are solid. |
