7 is the second full-length from To the Pain and if you weren't impressed with the debut, this one is not going to change your mind. The music is still a mix of Heavy and Thrash with meaty, "Sad But True" mid-tempo and staccato, mid-80s Anthrax riffing throughout the album. The vocals are even more frequently off-key than the last album when they are clear, while the growls, which are in tune for the most part, are only marginally easier on the ears. I think this band has some talent (even the singer, though he could use a few lessons) but the songwriting is uninspired, derivative or both and the performances don't do anything to compensate. |
