Like the first two Maiden albums? Then Sweden's Black Trip has a record for you. Shadowline, their second full-length, is all meaty riffs, tweedly solos and echo-drenched vocals longer on attitude than talent. There are some tasty melodies and choruses that flirt with being catchy though most fall a bit short. There's a bit of Hammond-style organ that along with a few Thin Lizzy-inspired vocal lines give Shadowline a 70s vibe at times. The album could have been awesome but the songwriting isn't quite there, though it is fun while it is on. Black Trip is definitely a band to watch if the NWOBHM is your thing. |
