Murmur is presented as Black Metal, but that's only a (very) small part of what's represented on the band's self-titled, sophomore release. Instead, the album is weird just for the sake of it, filled with long-winded, proggy instrumental sections and otherworldly atmosphere. Take some of the stranger parts of Blut Aus Nord or Deathspell Omega, mix them with some of spacier parts of Pink Floyd or King Crimson (the final track is a King Crimson cover), and you'll have an idea of what's on display here. Murmur is mildly interesting while it's playing, but too "out-there" to have much staying power. |
