Ireland's Stereo Nasty is going for an 80s Traditional Metal sound on their debut Nasty by Nature. The vocals are rough and angry in a way that reminds me a lot of Blackie Lawless and the simple, crunchy guitar riffs and uncomplicated rhythms had me thinking of W.A.S.P.'s debut for most of the time the album was on. The songs are basically by the numbers and recycle riffs from the 80s but that doesn't take much away from their ability to make you tap your foot. The guitars have a nice tone and the solos are serviceable. There isn't a lot on Nasty by Nature you haven't heard before but I don't mean that to take away from the album. On the contrary, we need more Traditional Metal that doesn't try to be anything else. If Stereo Nasty can tap into some catchier choruses on their next release, they'll have a real winner on their hands. Fans of early U.S. Heavy Metal should get a lot out of this one.
