This is the sophomore album from melodic Black Metal band Nihilistinen Barbaarisuus, who have a tongue-twisting name and an inexplicable Finnish focus despite being from Philadelphia. I see this hailed as some kind of masterpiece, but then it's also said to be "ambient", when it is not either of those things. Now, this is okay, but it is pretty much low-fi Black Metal in the vein of early Emperor, with constant keyboards to add some atmosphere to some very standard arrangements. The songwriting here is certainly not bad, but trust me when I say you have heard it a hundred times before. This is very rote melodic Black Metal with an adequate production job and vocals that are run through so many filters they pretty much sound like a garbage disposal. You won't hate this, but there is not a lot to it. |
