Like many other Eastern European countries, Ukraine has a decent underground Metal scene where you can make some great discoveries. The latest and one of my personal favorites is a 3-piece band from Kryvyi Rih named Daemonium. Daemonium have chosen to invoke demons the way Satan's apprentices Dark Funeral have done for years and are like the Ukraine's answer to that Swedish band. There is a vast similarity though this Ukrainian trio does not get overshadowed by their Swedish brothers in darkness much. While Dark Funeral may blaspheme holy ground with their blackened, straightforward and satanic convulsions, Daemonium add a couple of black spoonfuls of progressiveness to their grim dark arts and that helps them avoid the trap of being just another Dark Funeral copycat act. The presence of keyboards on this album gives Daemonium's music a lot of atmosphere and blesses the songs with extra depth. My Name is Legion isn't anything you haven't heard before but trying to reinvent the wheel isn't an easy task these days. However, Daemonium will undoubtedly receive lots of love in Black Metal circles with this release. Additional Information Album name translated from Имя мне Легион using Google Translate. |
