Rocka Rollas is one of several Swedish Heavy Metal bands featuring guitarist Cederick Forsberg (along with Blazon Stone, Breitenhold and Cloven Altar), this one focused on speedy, mostly keyboard-free Power Metal in the style of Stormwarrior, Wizard and Iron Savior. High-pitched vocals are carried by crunchy guitars, rollicking bass/drums and huge, major chord riffs. Pagan Ritual is the band's fourth full-length and just barrels out of the speakers with abandon. Rocka Rollas rarely slow the pace much below "fast" (parts of "Viking Lord" being an exception) and there isn't one clunker of a song in the lot. The choruses could use a little work as they are somewhat simple for the most part and this makes is a little difficult to tell one from another. Regardless, you'll have a fist in the air as you join in with the choirs when they start chanting. If you like your Power Metal fast and crunchy, Pagan Ritual should make you happy indeed. |
