Poland has always been known as one of the countries with a really strong and quality Death Metal scene. The list of quality, talented acts in the Polish field is endless, so there's no reason for any unnecessary name dropping in here. Polish Death Metal combo Disloyal has basically existed since the dawn of times. They started out as early as 1997, and have recorded four full-length studio albums since then. Godless is the title of the band's latest opus, released in June 2015. It's been seven years since the band's previous album, Prophecy, so it's only natural to think and be a teeny-weeny bit skeptical whether they have made any drastic musical changes during those seven years of silence. Well, to be honest, I cannot tell simply because I haven't heard it. But what I can tell right off the bat is that Godless sounds darn good to me, especially if you happen to like bands like Behemoth, Psycroptic, Krisiun, Vader and stuff – i.e. the more technical and unorthodox spectrum of Death Metal that challenges listeners as easily as sweeping the floor with tons of brutality and extremity. The members of Disloyal have truly challenged themselves on Godless. Their playing is virgin-tight, the songs are loaded with tons of strange and unexpected tempo changes, odd time signatures, etc., but they have still managed to make the album sound somehow coherent and even catchy in some weird way. The material is thoroughly well-written, and it's blessed with a heavy and crispy enough production. Also, it helps when you have a strong vocalist. Krzysztof "Kriss" Bendarowicz sounds totally convincing with his powerful grunts, reminding me of Steve Tucker of Morbid Angel as well as Nergal of Behemoth. Just get Godless... and allow it gently throw you against the concrete wall... face first. |
