My favorite country for producing the best Thrash Metal in Europe at the moment is definitely Greece. These Greek sons of God Ares have definitely found their own element in churning out violent and frenzied Thrash Metal, and that country has produced a huge line of worthy Thrash Metal troops over the past five or six years. Nightbreed, from Athens, is one of those solid Thrash Metal acts. The lads' self-titled debut album has put us into a time capsule, bringing us 30 years back in time. Nightbreed sounds like a cross between early Kreator and Minotaur, with an added dose of the Bay Area's early madness mixed in (à la Vio-lence and Exodus, in particular). So yeah, it's old school all the way – and not pretending to be anything else – which is why I tend to like this Greek act so much. Keeping it simple and playing as aggressively and fast as you can, spitting out venom, is always a perfect Thrash-recipe – and Nightbreed does exactly that. Good and friendly violent fun this absolutely is. Believe me, you are gonna love them. |
