Vesztegzár is a Hungarian band that plays a bruising and unforgiving brand of mid-80s Thrash. Tempos are generally quick, the riffs sharp and vicious and the vocals are a near-Death shout on their second album Utveszto, which translates to Maze on the English version of the album (the one the band sent). The album opens with the best track, "Shame", which has a great staccato guitar and chorus that no doubt gets the pit chanting in unison. The rest of the album is pretty derivative of stuff we've all heard before, but the playing and songwriting are a notch above the throngs of bands sailing these waters, making it a rather entertaining listen. Fans of classic Thrash albums like Reign in Blood and Beneath the Remains take note; Vesztegzár is a band you'll definitely want to check out. |
