Miklagard is the second volume in the trilogy of albums released by Rebellion portraying the history of the Vikings. Sagas of Iceland had set the bar really high prior to this effort, and it would be hard to achieve what former Grave Digger axeman Uwe Lulis (now with Accept) and bassplayer Tomi Göttlich managed with this album: produce an equal effort quality-wise, or even surpass its predecessor.

With a small change in the lineup since Sagas of Iceland, replacing Björn Eilen with Simone Wenzel to side with Uwe on the six-string guitar, the band kept their Grave Digger essence and the stellar songwriting achieved in the last output to deliver yet another near-flawless album. Starting with the emblematic intro "Vi Seglar Mot Miklagard" with guest vocals by Charles Rytkönen of Morgana LeFay, the atmosphere bursts when the first riffs of the angry "Sweden" start, masterfully showing emotion and power at the same time. With special attention to the fast and explosive "Ulfberth", the melodic and full of emotions "Kiew" and "Miklagard", the cadenced and pompous "Free" and "God of Thunder" and the awesome "Taste of Steel", the album has a wide-range of Power and even Speed Metal elements which enrich and perfectly illustrate the stories of the songs, each with its special approach.

Another powerful entry on Rebellion's discography, the band takes you once again on a journey to the attractive world of the Vikings, this time inviting you to Miklagard (name given to the city of Istanbul by the Medieval Vikings) to pile, kill and raise your fists. Strongly recommended.
