I haven't heard anything about this band since their last album almost six years ago. I liked that disc a lot, so I was keen to see what this one was like. Morte Incandescente have been around for like 15 years, putting out four albums and a bunch of splits, but they have always remained under the radar, which for a Black Metal band can always be a good sign. This album is not really doing it for me as much as the last one. The riffs are not as good, the songs are more drawn out and slow, and the production job is not primitive in a cool, underground way, but rather in a weak, kind of awkward way. The mix is all over the place, and sometimes you can hear the vocals, and sometimes not. There is a difference between a raw recording job, and one that just sounds amateur, and this one sounds pretty half-assed. The songs just never really excite or manage to create momentum, and the weak production robs them of all atmosphere. I wanted to like this, but I found it pretty boring. |
