Widower is a Black/Thrash band hailing from Austin, Texas and The Unholy Oath is their third EP release. I want to say this is not the same stuff we've been hearing from the current Black/Thrash onslaught of the past couple of years, but that wouldn't be true. Blinding speed, satanic lyrics and vicious, raspy vocals define both the style and the five tracks on The Unholy Oath. The songs convey lots of menace and the guitars are crispier than a Scotsman on a two-week holiday in the Mediterranean without sunscreen. Widower plays with a lot of energy but doesn't do much to separate their music from the masses. If bands such as Evilnight, Principality of Hell, Scythe and Speedwhore get your fist in the air, you'll find something to like on The Unholy Oath, it just won't be anything you haven't heard before. |
