For those familiar with Italy's Rhapsody of Fire, the band's 11th album, Into the Legend, will not change your opinion one whit regardless of whether you love them or hate them. This band has found a formula and is intent on squeezing every last drop out of it. For those not familiar, Rhapsody of Fire (formerly just Rhapsody, look it up if you really want to know why they changed the name) was at the forefront of the Italian Power Metal scene back in the late 90s. They were one of the first bands to bring in symphonic elements and early in their career that was pretty novel, but now it just doesn't pack the same punch when the band keeps releasing the same album over and over. Into the Legend starts with the same ominous instrumental intro, runs through double-kick burners, mid-paced rockers, syrupy ballads and ends with the obligatory lengthy "epic" just like every other Rhapsody of Fire release. The songs are graced with the same majestic keyboards and supremely catchy choruses and the band even tries a few twists here and there like the guitar synths in "Winter's Rain." As always, the album sounds great as these guys are very talented musicians. I like Into the Legend but I'll be dipped in shit before I can pick it out of a lineup of Rhapsody of Fire albums.
