Finland's Thunderstone has been around since 2000 playing melodic Power Metal of the 50/50 guitar/keyboard style. The band's seventh album, Apocalypse Again, features a few speedy double-kick tracks like "Veterans of the Apocalypse" sprinkled in among several mid-paced numbers. The choruses are written to inspire the crowd to sing along and the songs are generally well written but none really jump out of the speakers and grab you. I often felt like I was listening to a Masterplan or recent Helloween album when Apocalypse Again was on. That's pretty good company and fans of those bands should find Thunderstone to their liking but there isn't going to be a lot they haven't already heard. |
