Ocean of Black is the second full-length from German Melodic Death Metal band In Sanity. Musically, Ocean of Black is rather thrashy with not a small dose of Traditional Metal (check out the cool solo on "When the Cataclysm Churns") to go along with some supporting keyboards. It isn't super technical and the vocals aren't cookie monster barfing so non-Death Metal fans should be able to get into it easily. While not gross burping, the vocals are a monotonous throat-rending scream but In Sanity shakes things up with some Accept-like backing vocals ("Ocean of Black") and clean singing ("Hollow Tears") that varies things a bit. All in all, Ocean of Black is a solid release that doesn't break a lot of new ground yet avoids being another run of the mill album. |
