The Netherland's Nyx Aether is listed as a Symphonic/Doom band on Metal-Archives but after listening to their EP Elixir for Trance over the past week I'd slot them in as a Gothic Metal band. Clean female vocals, occasional Black/Death male vocals, lots of keyboards and fairly intricate song structures describe all three songs on the EP. The female vocals are thankfully in key but lack any warmth and the songwriting has a stitched-together feel like the songs are more a collection of parts than true songs. Elixir for Trance is decent but Nyx Aether has a way to go before anyone is going to mention them in the company of Imperia, Sirenia or Tristania. |
