Blacksmith is an Australian band that delivers some seriously awesome Doom-infused Heavy Metal on their debut EP. Fuzzy guitars and sludgy intros are offset with fast riffing on many of the tracks. The vocals are clean and not always perfect but, rather than being a problem, they give Blacksmith a NWOBHM feel. The lyrics deal with fantasy and sci-fi topics giving songs like "Smoke Wizard" and "Elysian" an epic flavor. It isn't all weighty topics as the title of "Robot Werewolves from Planet 89" can attest. Basically these Aussies plug in, crank up the reverb and just dig right in to some meaty riffs and grooves. Black Sabbath crossed with the NWOBHM and maybe a touch of Manilla Road is how I'd describe Blacksmith. An impressive first effort. |
