I've been listening to this album off and on for nearly a year now and still find it hard to describe it but... It's time. The fact that I still listen to it on a regular basis at least hints at some decent staying power, that's for sure.
Frontschwein really doesn't have what I would call a weak song; just some that are better than others. Marduk have long paid their dues and, as far as I'm concerned, have yet to disappoint. This album offers some good variety by mixing slow and fast songs that all have something in common: they're heavy, evil and downright punishing. You can't help but feel crushed and pinned to the ground throughout the duration of the album. It's not all mind-blowing heaviness and speed either: there are some good melodies in there that will just stick in your head and will randomly make you feel the urge to put the album on. It's melody "Marduk-style" so, fear not, that doesn't make it any more accessible to the masses.
If I had bothered to do a Top 10 in 2015, this album would most certainly have been somewhere in there. An album that showcases a band at the top of its game.
