Life Off Formation is the third full-length from German melodic Death Metal band Human Debris. It is an independent release but the band definitely went all-out on the packaging; a nice digipak with a fold-out insert containing the lyrics and a DVD with a making-of documentary (and they were obviously nice enough to send me a physical copy). The music is on the technical side with precision drumming and riffing sharp enough to cut your fingers if you get too close. The vocals are comprised of a mix of harsh and clean, male and female singing and are neither croaks nor simple growls. There are some nice acoustic parts that do a decent job of breaking up the blistering pace of Life Off Formation. None of the songs are all that memorable and the songwriting is rather bland so this is an album that's entertaining while it's on but leaves little in the way of lasting impressions. A solid effort from Human Debris but not one that separates them from the pack. |
