Mother Harlot is a new band from Brooklyn, NY that combines Traditional Heavy/Power Metal with a doomy, almost psychedelic vibe and clean female singing. The riffs are punchy and the guitar tone has a classic sound that takes me back to the 80s. Singer Sonia Goldberg has a nice voice but is the wrong fit for what Mother Harlot is shooting for. She is expressive but has no charisma when singing the vocal lines and comes across as underpowered compared to the guitars. There are some things that are intriguing on this band's self-titled EP, especially the lead work, but they need to get the vocals sorted out. |
