Colombian Thrash-trio, Brain Damaged, was born in 2007 and has finally got their debut album out, titledĀ Nación infecta. The album offers 10 songs of old-school-tinged Thrash Metal that takes its influences from both American (mostly melodies) and European (filthiness and rawness) past Thrash Metal scenes. Brain Damaged's slightly blackened, ferocious, raw and punky Thrash Metal is, for the most part anyway, just "ok", but at times it gets just sloppy and incoherent despite all the speed and aggression that they are able to deliver pretty well through their songs. The DIY-type of production doesn't help much either; especially the drum sound is pretty thin and powerless. Plus, the use of different types of intros/outros in the songs is rather pointless, cutting the important ferociousness away from their music that otherwise seems to be an integral part of the band's sound. The only instrument that is mixed in a sufficient enough way here is the bass, which got enough power behind it in the final mix.

I don't know... It's always, of course, a nice thing to check out new bands from all over the world, but these Colombians unfortunately lack a thing or two to make any bigger impression on me this time. Better luck next time.
