"Insane horror and cult-film orientated Metal-Punk duo from Sweden..." Says the booklet of this band's first full-length, titled Now They Are Everywhere! There Is No Escape! Hmmm... Okay. I can definitely underline the word 'insane' because this mad Swedish duo has recorded eight full-lengths within just two years, five full-lengths alone in 2016. And I am not even counting several EPs and other shit. Recording such an insane amount of stuff within such a short period of time is, of course, possible, but it may also be an indication that they don't take writing music too seriously, right? Well, that's exactly the case here. The band draws its main inspiration from old horror films and stuff. They do everything on this record pretty much tongue-in-cheek, and I admit it even sounds partly fun and entertaining, especially when they find this more Rock 'n' Roll-tinged, Motörhead-ish vibe (check out "Nihilistic Nirvana" and "Night of the Cult" to really get the party mood atmosphere). On the other hand, this stuff grows old real quickly. In the right state of mind, Hordes of the Apocalypse undoubtedly offer a fair dose of honest fun, but it's just too bad that train missed my stop this time. Better luck next time, guys... |
