Ty Morn is a new band out of the U.K. that plays a varied style of metal on their debut, Istor. Guitarist Aron Biale is the only permanent member, rounding out the recording with several guest musicians, but he's still crafted an engaging and mature album. Ty Morn's music ranges from fist-pumping power metal anthems like "Sign of the Hunter" and "Bring Forth the Night" to grand and atmospheric pieces such as "Fall on Your Sword" and "Kings of Dishonour". There are eerie echoes of faraway lands, evoking Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" on cuts like "The Language of Beasts". Oh, and why not throw in a Hammond organ solo on "Hunt the Leviathan", just because you can? Ty Morn cover a lot of ground on Istor and do an excellent job capturing the feeling of each style, showing a level of songwriting skills you might not expect from a new entity. Whether you like music in the vein of Hammerfall and Walpyrgus or Atlantean Kodex and Solstice or even the aforementioned Led Zeppelin, Ty Morn have something you'll enjoy on Istor. An impressive debut, indeed.
