I was completely sold on the last U.D.O. effort so it was a pleasant surprise to find his latest EP Leatherhead in my inbox. However I must say I'm not as impressed with the tracks here, especially when compared to the Infected EP released prior to Dominator. From the four-track listing, two will be appearing on the upcoming album Rev-Rapter: "Leatherhead" and "Rock'N'Roll Soldiers". Both stick to a mid-pace, the former boasting a big main riff that wouldn't sound out of place on a Rammstein album with its synthetic-sounding guitar tone and sliding power chords. The latter boasts a smoking good old-fashioned heavy metal riff, that while it might have been done to death demands the head to bang. Overuse of clean channel on both these tracks is worrying, and I hope this doesn't persist throughout.

Udo sounds as gravelly as ever, as always the perfect voice for the German brand of heavy metal U.D.O are pedaling, no qualms there. Most noteworthy as far as I'm concerned is the lead guitar work which is superb, the solos in the two new tracks are highly memorable and perfect for the songs. The other two tracks on here are from the DVD Thundervision which I'm not sold on. I could only recommend this to the hardcore U.D.O. fan. Best to wait for Rev-Rapter to come out, unless you're really desperate for some new U.D.O. material.
