More heavy metal-based doom metal from Sweden's Sorcerer, Reign of the Reaper sees the band sticking to what they do best. Their brand of doom metal is very melodic and sometimes even upbeat, which is definitely weird for doom, with a good number of songs coming off downright epic. Just like on Lamenting of the Innocent, the vocals are absolutely infectious and often steal the show, great stuff right there. A lot of doom is slow and crushing and often depressing, but Sorcerer have a knack for wrapping their doomy vibe in a more lively, easy-going style that's more accessible and also kind of "rocking," and they strike a good balance between powerful, epic heavy metal, and melancholic doom on this album. Powerful and poignant. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
