Evil Hunter combines old school songwriting with a modern production and their self-titled debut brims with punchy, upbeat riffs and 80s-inspired lyrics ("Hot Leather", "Open Up Your Eyes", etc.). The singer has a powerful, gritty voice which reminds me of Krokus’ Marc Storace and musically Krokus’ catalog from Headhunter back isn’t a bad reference, though bands like Dio and Accept are certainly in the mix. There’s a Whitesnake-esque ballad ("By Your Side") which isn’t bad but is the kind of song MTV would have overplayed back when it was still a music channel. Evil Hunter is solid, no frills heavy metal that gets straight to the point.
