Arch Enemy is one of those bands that at this point really doesn't need background info since most people who are into metal more than likely own at least one of their albums or at the very least have heard one. If you haven't then you are more than likely at this website by accident. That being said I will just get to the review. This is the second release with vocalist Angela Gassow and one of the first things that really jumps out at you is her vocal delivery. I thought that on Wages of Sin she sounded a little nervous but on Anthems of Rebellion the confidence and conviction in her voice is almost palpable. This is their most accessible album to date but I think their best in terms of overall songwriting. Another thing that really shines through on this album is the absolutely killer lead guitar work. In my opinion this is without a doubt the best lead work I have ever heard from them. The rythmn work is just as good as ever with some riffs that will simply be amazing to hear live. The overall feel of the album seems to be leaning more to a thrash metal feel which I also consider a very good thing since I can never hear enough thrash metal. Saying this album is the most accessible is a bit misleading considering there is no way in hell you are going to here this on your local metal station (well at least not here in the US) and it certainly isn't going to get heavy rotation on MTV. Overall this is another excellent album from start to finish and one that any metalhead can enjoy no matter their genre preference. The momentum for this band is in full effect and with the talent level in this band I don't see that momentum slowing anytime soon. Favorite Tracks-Leader of the Rats, Silent Wars, Saints and Sinners. Highly Recommended. |
