I had never heard of these guys before and I wish I had. Polish deathsters Icon of Evil do more damage in just over nine minutes than many bands can manage with an hour-long album. This is fast, crushingly heavy, pounding and punishing death metal that pins you to the floor and makes you beg for more. The vocals are a mix of haunting, vile death growls and a more screechy, abrasive style closer to that of black metal. Poland has a good history when it comes to extreme metal and, at least based on the two songs here, Icon of Evil could carve their place near the top if they keep writing stuff like this. If you like death metal that's all about heaviness, this will hit the spot. |
