Argentinian thrashers QuickFire have been around since 2007 and their third-full length, Conqueror of the Void, shows them working in a technical and progressive vein that is located somewhere between Whiplash, Anacrusis, and Voivod. That might make it sound like this band has a tendency to go overboard on the technicality and make the songs disjointed and impossible to follow, and that's because they do, but they also even out the unorthodox riffing and rhythmic arrangements with more familiar aspects of Thrash just enough to keep you from tossing the disc out the window in frustration in spite of all that. I feel the band is at its best when they don't try too hard to be complex and just fucking Thrash, but even then I won't say that this is a great album. At nearly 70 minutes, this album is far too long, and many of the songs could have trimmed some of their fat and been stronger for it. This is an interesting and ambitious album that's worth a listen, but sometimes less is more, and the band could do with learning that.
