Italy's Labÿrinth have settled into a groove with their tenth album, In the Vanishing Echoes of Goodbye. Their smooth, melodic power metal interwoven with tasteful, never overdone progressive elements is on full display and the sound is as good as always. The songwriting is excellent throughout with perhaps not the distinctive high points of earlier efforts where riffs or vocal lines in certain songs jumped out, but with a consistency that is surely the envy of other bands. There is more than enough emotional ebb-and-flow to sweep you through the album and leave you wanting to hit "play" another time. Labÿrinth will always have high water marks like Architecture of a God and Return to Heaven Denied that any subsequent albums have to measure up to and I wouldn't put In the Vanishing Echoes of Goodbye at that level, but it is an excellent progressive/power metal album. It should please the band's fanbase as well as those who might not have experienced Labÿrinth before.
