Debut for this two-man Funeral Doom project from Minnesota, which is an odd place for a band like this but then Funeral Doom is an odd genre. It's not an easy style to carry off, and this band doesn't quite manage it. The recording is good, with a hollow, echo-laden sound and guitars that sound like they were recorded in an undersea cave. This does remind me a good bit of Ahab or maybe Colosseum, but then it can be hard to distinguish bands of this type. The songs are gloomy and drawn-out, but they don't seem to have enough actual musical ideas to carry them through eight or nine minutes. Good Funeral Doom uses melodies that build tension over the long compositions, so they hold your attention and the eventual payoff is worth it. These songs are just too repetitive, without anything to really grab onto. This has a good sound, but not enough substance.
