Countess of the Night is the debut album from Spain's Aeroscreamer, a band whose EP, Cast the Fire, I found on Bandcamp a few years back and really enjoyed. Countess of the Night is in the same vein of early '80s heavy metal with lots of straightforward, rocking riffs and catchy choruses. They've dialed back a bit on the old school keys, something I'd like to see them incorporate a bit more next time. I would call the songwriting on this album a bit safer and less adventurous than on the EP, with a couple of bangers (like "Stuck in the Show"), but several songs that are good but on the generic side. The vocals are also similar to the EP, meaning they are energetic but not the strongest in terms of technique, but this is also part of the album's charm. Countess of the Night is a good release from Aeroscreamer though there is still room for improvement. If '80s-style, female-fronted heavy metal with an ear to '80s acts like Bitch, Girlschool, Rock Goddess, Warlock and the like get your amps buzzing, Aeroscreamer is a band for you.
