Review

Third album for Germany's Sceptor, going for mostly mythologic thematic this time around and bringing an appropriate epic edge to the table on Wrath of the Gods. Florian Reimann replaces Bob Mitchell as vocalist and he does a good job overall, delivering good lines, though I can't say any of the vocal lines stuck in my head after the album was over. Strangely, on occasion the vocals reminded me a bit of Ice War's Jo, even though Florian is a better vocalist—so take the comparison lightly. This is very melodic, clean heavy metal that, like many bands of that ilk, is well rooted in the '80s while having a modern edge. It's not the heaviest stuff out there, though on occasion they crank up the heaviness enough to shake the walls. This is one of those albums that I really like when it's on, but it doesn't have much of a lasting effect. Your mileage may vary. That said, this is some very decent heavy metal with an epic edge.
