Malta's Killerwitch play fairly orthodox traditional heavy metal on their second album, Palace of the Dragon. There is sometimes an epic vibe to the songwriting, like on "Silent Angel," but most of the album is direct, in your face metal. I don't hear anything on this album that makes it stand out from the crowd, but it is fine while on. Lizzy Borden is the band that comes to mind during much of Palace of the Dragon, though the galloping riffs and sense of space that occasionally work themselves in are more like early Hammerfall. There is nothing amazing about Killerwitch's sound, but if traditional metal with an '80s sound is your thing, you should check it out. |
