This is a new Norwegian Funeral Doom band who sound exactly like you expect Norwegian Funeral Doom to sound. Slow, melodic riffing, a relentlessly melancholic atmosphere, and a varied vocal approach that encompasses moaning, growling, and intonations. There's certainly an overwrought, gothy element to the sound here, but then that's not out of like for this kind of music. Overall this is in the vein of stuff like Skepticism, Funeral, Pantheist, or Thergothon, though these kids look like they were likely not even born when Thergothon were around. I don't find the overall compositions holding together as well as they could, and a lot of this sounds pretty shapeless, even if it has some outstanding moments. A good start. |
