Sweden's Disarray is a thrash metal band with a black metal-esque discography consisting of two singles, two full-length albums and now this EP, The Darkening, in just under two and half years. I liked their last album, Religious Disease, likening it to Germanic thrash metal and, while that can still be heard on the three original tunes here, the songwriting is more chaotic and the performances, especially the vocals, less restrained with a crossover vibe. The songwriting isn't spectacular, kind of faceless thrash, and perhaps the new songs were leftovers from previous sessions that the band thought would serve to keep their name in front of fans until their next full album. The live versions don't give anything you can't get from the studio originals. If you really dig Religious Disease and Evil Is Reborn (Disarray's debut album), you won't find it difficult to add The Darkening to your collection, but in terms of standing out from the thrash metal crowd, it really doesn't.
