Mindkiller is a French/Dutch band that has apparently been active since 2017, but this EP is their first release. There's nothing here you haven't heard before if you're into technical-tinged brutal death metal, and I was thinking of rating this lower, but the more I listened to it, the more I liked it. It's not something that leaves much of an impression once it's over, but it's one hell of a bullet-train ride while it's on. For one thing, I like that they don't overdo the technical stuff like some bands do just to show off. It's there, but it's not annoying. But it's the sheer speed of the music on offer that steals the spotlight. This is really fast through and through, barely slowing down and, best of all, you can actually hear what's going on: it's not a big mess of speedy notes. Don't try to headbang or air-guitar/air-drum to this, you'll fuck yourself up. If you have a hankering for 20 minutes of sheer speed and brutality, this is just what the doctor ordered. |
