Zodiac Ass hail from Austria and play a pretty decent Thrash, though after several listens I'm still not all that excited about it. The main roadblock here are the vocals which are screams/barks done "the modern way" – at times reminding me me of some "nu" bands from a few years ago, though not nearly that bad. Your mileage may vary. The Thrash here is slightly more of the modern variety than the old school style that many bands are now playing, though there's still quite a bit of that in here, just not as predominant as the modern, "cleaner" style. Galloping and "machine-gunning" riffs meet melodic passages and the occasional solos (a couple of those being quite the attention-catchers), and that's pretty much what's the most fun here. There are some monotonous and repetitive chunks here and there that really feel like filler, and sometimes the drums are boring as fuck, especially when in a more death-ish style. A Monument of Human Ignorance isn't bad, but at the same time it's not all that remarkable. |
