Sweden's underground extreme Metal scene is constantly producing intriguing bands that grab your attention. Cursed 13 have chosen a mix of Death and Black Metal, with the emphasis on the latter. Cursed 13 break out from the typical Black Metal mold on their debut album Triumf, with a fresh approach that focuses more on mid-paced and doomy songwriting while the actual riffs lean toward Death Metal. Cursed 13 aren't afraid of a little experimenting either and songs like "Frälst av Eld" and "Agitator (Upptakt till Vrede)" can certainly be called avant-garde. The lyrics are sung in both English and Swedish, which adds another layer of uniqueness to this opus. To Cursed 13's credit, I cannot think of another band that sounds quite the same. These Swedes are undoubtedly committed to wandering their own dark path without any concern for outside pressure or desire for mass acceptance. Cursed 13's oppressive, Doom-tinged and heavy bombardment of agonizing brutality on Triumf is something that needs to be experienced by everyone. If I were you, I wouldn't miss an opportunity to check this band out, this record in particular. |
