0XiST (as in "zero exist") is a Finnish band that plays Doom/Death with a satisfyingly visceral bottom end that rattles your ribs and some evil Death Metal vocals. One Eon (anagrams, very clever) is their second album and even if this isn't music that normally does much for me I can see, or rather hear, the appeal. 0XiST's music emanates dark atmospheres but never gets bogged down to point where the music is forgotten. To my ears Monotheist-era Celtic Frost and Tryptikon are similar to what is contained on One Eon. Where the album loses me is the fact that all the songs sound a lot like one another and the drone starts to really wear me down. Maybe I'm missing some subtle nuances fans of this genre might pick up on and to them I say have at it. |
