Ironhawk’s Ritual of the Warpath joins the growing ranks of black/thrash albums riding the current wave of popularity that genre is enjoying. It has a lot of the punk-fueled energy of first-wave bands like Venom, with a few pinches and squeals that would be more of a Slayer influence. The vocals are a deep growl with plenty of echo, nearly as raspy as some second-wave bands, so it might be more accurate to describe Ritual of the Warpath as thrashy black metal. Fans of bands like Bewitcher, Midnight, BAT, Black Mass, etc. have heard this kind of album many times over, but the attitude and atmosphere are what they can’t get enough of, so if you want some nasty, evil metal that will make the neighbor’s cat go bald, Ironhawk should do the trick. |
