That run time is not a typo, this is the third full-length from Danish band Orm, and it is a massive one, with three of the four tracks over 20 minutes long and the fourth one juuuuust under that. I was expecting something depressive or drone-influenced, but instead this is very sharp, sometimes furious Black Metal with a taste for long, long compositions. I don't really see any reason why these songs have to go on this long, but I don't get bored listening to them, as the band keeps things interesting with a lot of time changes, melodic shifts, and a really strong sense of atmosphere. It's hard to really think of any one band this reminds me of. There is a certain similarity to other ambitious bands like Nightbringer or Blut Aus Nord, but overall I find this has an arresting and individual sound. If you like this kind of thing, then this will be your kind of thing for sure. |
