Geoff Waye of Triskelyon now hits us with a fourth release in four years, so he's been keeping busy on top of his other projects. As I've mentioned in previous reviews, this is a sort-of solo project of Geoff with guest musicians and/or singers on each song. So, like it or not, the vocals change a lot throughout the album. On the upside, if you dislike a singer, wait for the next song. ;)

So, to the album. This is power/thrash like Triskelyon have been doing it since 2022. It's not some retro stuff, though old-school influences do pop up here and there, but rather more on the modern side of metal music—in a good way, as saying that often carries a negative connotation. Maelstrom of Chaos is very much in the same vein as what came before it, no more, no less. It doesn't sound like it's all the same album being repeated, but stylistically I can't say anything jumped to my ears as being different. In short, if you liked the band's previous stuff, you'll like this too, but chances are it won't bring you to this side if you didn't like that stuff. Thematically, this is not flowery stuff at all once again (as if the artwork didn't spoil this revelation ;)), so while this thrash has power metal elements, it's once again dark, sometimes angry stuff throughout. It's not super catchy either. I think the catchiest song here is the closing track, a cover of Peter Schilling's "Major Tom," which, just like on previous albums, kind of sticks out without feeling all that out of place. One major strength of Triskelyon is not sound like all the other bands out there, so if power/thrash (or just thrash) is your thing and you need a break from the tons of clone bands out there, you should certainly check this out.
