I liked this band's last work, and so I was rather keen to hear this. Again, this is a not-bad slice of rather melodic Black Metal, but this time it seems a bit less inspired. The production is rather muffled, so the riffs sound less dramatic than they should, but some of the melodic work is quite nice. That said, there is nothing here that really grabbed me, and I found it hard to really concentrate on this disc. Conspiracy are kind of odd, as their look and lyrical themes are more Death Metallish, but their sound is a kind of smoothly melodic Thy Serpent sort of thing. This is not a bad album, but it has little presence, and doesn't do anything to really grab or keep your attention. I wish I could say more good about this, because it has some really lovely acoustic pieces and melodies, but it's just not compelling. |
