Fourth album from this French band that plays a crunchy, Teutonic-flavored brand of heavy metal with a bit of power metal flair. The throaty shouts, pounding rhythm section and crisp guitar work are given some well-written songs to power through, making Legion of the Grave a really enjoyable headbanging listen from front to back. Singer Fabrice Emmanuelson (who also plays bass in Lonewolf) sounds a bit like former OZ singer Ape di Martini, giving tracks like "Black Martin," which has a slow verse that builds to a shouted chorus and faster middle section, an OZ vibe but mostly I'm reminded of bands like Wizard, Paragon and Sacred Steel, with less emphasis on speed. Rising Steel isn't breaking any molds but that isn't the point with Legion of the Grave: Ass-kicking heavy metal is. So if that is what you are in the mood for, grab a copy and throw a fist in the air. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
